((( Welcome to Bump Galaxy )))
Bump Galaxy is a virtual world and community for mental health and care, with a landscape and economy based on collective healing and wellbeing. In Bump Galaxy, there are two kinds of players: regular members and trained practitioners in different fields of healthcare, each with their own unique capacity to provide care.
In Bump Galaxy, players can meet mental health professionals from around the world. Imagine a joint therapy session with a relationship counselor from Sweden and a hypnotherapist in Japan. Imagine participating in a collective sound bath in the rainforest by one of your favorite DJs. As a Bump Galaxy practitioner, one would be part of an engaged community of professionals from diverse fields of care, collaborating on new care practices and learning from one another in the process.
Designed for different types of care, the Bump Galaxy landscape features several different Care Commons: a forest for breathing meditations, sand dunes where you can reflect on your dreams, a netherworld for facing your fears, a snowfield and underwater temple designed for hypnotic imaginings.
In these Care Commons, players are invited to journal — to write intimately about their thoughts, feelings and revelations during their experience; practitioners are encouraged to document their sessions and discoveries.
Upon finishing sessions at the Care Commons or with a practitioner, both regular members and practitioners receive a resource pack unique to the commons visited or type of care given or received. When they build using these resources, Bump Galaxy’s landscape becomes a direct reflection of the community’s history of collective healing and mental, emotional & spiritual wellbeing.
Furthermore, all knowledge produced in Bump Galaxy is stored in a Central Archive, a floating island with hanging fruit trees, with which citizens can interact to access a hologram search menu. Think of the Central Archive as a search engine, not unlike Google or Wikipedia, which houses all the knowledge and new care practices produced in Bump Galaxy.
The world we live in and the issues we face as a human species are far too complex and entangled for any one person to comprehend. The information terrain is certainly bumpy, and it’s only getting bumpier. We might look around this strange new world and realize there are places, nooks and crannies our eyes can’t reach, so we must reach out to one another to grasp its contours.
So what does it mean to bump into each other, actually? Social friction? Bad blood, akin to the ubiquitous strife between conventional and alternative ways of being? With the belief that new ways of caring will emerge through exchange between different knowledge worlds, let it this time mean to gently collide, in surprising and meaningful ways pregnant with possibility, blurring the lines between a producer and consumer of knowledge; a giver and receiver of care.
